Yes, all good things do come to an end. As our international friends leave Singapore, they will take with them a lot of fond memories, and left their own imprints on our local campers. Remember the token of appreciation presented by each National Society’s delegation to Mr Benjamin William, Secretary-General, Singapore Red Cross, back on Camp Day 1? We’ll let you take a closer look at them!

Camp Day 5: City Tour

Welcome to the Singapore City Gallery!

Welcome to the Singapore City Gallery!

It’s the final day for most our international friends, and the day started out early with a visit to the Singapore City Gallery. Opened in 1999, it offers insights into how URA plans land usage in Singapore, and there’s even a to-scale model of Central Singapore! After lunch, it was more shopping for some of our friends, while the rest headed back to campsite to pack their bags, and head back to their homes.

While most of our local campers are heading back to their homes, our international friends won’t be going back so fast. They’ll stay around for a day or two in Singapore, to savour the sighs and sounds of our bustling city. Tonight, they’ll be dropping by Chinatown, as well as some shopping at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. But before that, some bottle popping, toasts, and pizza buffet are in order.

Camp Day 4: Closing Ceremony

Spot the Heart-Shape!

Spot the Heart-Shape!

We’ve finally come to the Closing Ceremony. As the lanyards were handed out to our best campers, some were thinking of their warm, comfortable beds waiting for them. It’s certainly been a long, trying journey for most of our campers. But one thing’s for certain, new friendships have been forged. But most importantly, that bond will stay connected, for a long, long time.

Camp Day 4: Clean-Up

Tent Unpitching

Tent Unpitching

As we inch ever closer to the end, it’s time for our campers to pack their bags, and clean up the ‘mess’ that they created over the past four days. Tents had to be unpitched and washed, bunks had to be cleaned, and the list goes on. It’s also the time for our campers to exchange contact details (especially those between our local campers and that of our international friends). Let’s take a closer look at what happened.

Camp Day 4: Blood Donor Recruitment Drive

A blood donation can save up to three lives, yet, not many Singaporeans step forward to donate their blood. Currently, about 1.7% of the population are blood donors, but this is short of the recommended target of 2% for self-sustainability, or about 106,000 people. Armed with the knowledge learnt back in Camp Day 1, our campers are out around Singapore to recruit more people to come forward, and to dispel the myths of blood donation, if any.
